Clinician experience of nudges to increase ED OUD treatment
Data from the last decade has demonstrated that the national rate of emergency department (ED) presentations for opioid-related issues has increased by nearly 100% [1]. Accordingly, EDs have begun to increase their capacity to treat opioid use disorder (OUD) in an evidence based manner [2]. Extensive research demonstrates that using medication for addiction treatment (MAT) with buprenorphine to treat OUD effectively increases retention in treatment, reduces illicit opioid use, and decreases all-cause and opioid-related mortality [3-6].
