ABSTRACT The indication for simultaneous bilateral native nephrectomy and the choice of surgical technique is of key importance, as these patients are burdened with a large comorbidity. In this report, we describe a case in which, during antibiotic therapy for PD-related peritonitis due to Enterococcus faecalis alone, the patient suffered another occurrence of peritonitis due to newly revealed Gram-negative rod-like Pseudomonas aeruginosa. He required catheter removal due to the peritonitis being suspected of relapsing. CONCLUSION: The absolute number of patients and rates of incidence and prevalence in dialysis in the country increased substantially in the period, although there are considerable differences in rates by state. There has been a persistent increase in the use of venous catheters as an access for dialysis; and reduction in the number of patients with positive serology for hepatitis C. ConclusionThis questionnaire survey uncovered a gap between guidelines and actual practice, even in hospitals accredited as educational facility, which is a novel and important finding. We report the first case of PD-associated peritonitis secondary to Mycobacterium septicum. The patient is a 53-year-old Caucasian man who developed end-stage kidney disease due to systemic sclerosis.
