[Retinoblastoma]. Ophthalmologe. 2020 Mar 23;: Authors: Bornfeld N, Lohmann D, Bechrakis NE, Biewald E Abstract Retinoblastomas represent 6% of all malignant tumors in children under 5 years old, which untreated lead to blindness in the affected eye and death due to metastases. The main symptoms are leukocoria and strabismus, which if possible, always necessitate a clarification within 1 week for exclusion of a retinoblastoma. The most frequent differential diagnoses are Coats' disease and persistent fetal vasculature (PFV) as well as other intraocular tumors, in particular astrocytomas. Systemic chemotherapy, if necessary in combination with laser hyperthermia, local chemotherapy and brachytherapy are the most important methods for eye-preserving treatment. Advanced cases mostly necessitate enucleation. PMID: 32206913 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Authors: Zhang X, Ren X, Tang J, Wang J, Zhang X, He P, Yao C, Bian W, Sun L Abstract Multidrug resistance (MDR) of cancer cells is a significant challenge in chemotherapy, highlighting the urgent medical need for simple and reproducible strategies to reverse this process. Here, we report the development of an active tumor-targeting and redox-responsive nanoplatform (PA-ss-NP) using hyaluronic acid-g-cystamine dihydrochloride-poly-ε-(benzyloxycarbonyl)-L-lysine (HA-ss-PLLZ) to co-deliver paclitaxel (PTX) and apatinib (APA) for effective reversal of MDR. This smart nanoplatform specifically bound to CD44 rec...
Authors: Mookerjee S, Foster HR, Waller AK, Ghevaert CJ Abstract Platelet transfusions are given to patients in hospital who have a low blood platelet count (thrombocytopenia) either because of major bleeding (following trauma or surgery) or because the bone marrow production of platelets is impaired often due to chemotherapy, infiltration with malignant cells, fibrosis or genetic disorders. We are currently entirely reliant on blood donors as a source of platelets in transfusion medicine. However, the demand for platelets continues to rise, driven by an aging population, advances in medical procedures and ever mor...

Authors: Macruz CF, Lima SMRR, Postigo S, Martins MM, Lucarelli AP, de Oliveira VM Abstract OBJECTIVE: To assess quality of life and climacteric symptoms for post-menopausal women receiving hormone therapy for breast cancer. METHODS: A prospective observational study of women treated at the Mastology Outpatient Clinic of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology was conducted between 2015 and 2019. Post-menopausal patients who had been diagnosed with breast cancer and who were experiencing climacteric symptoms were selected. These patients had undergone surgery, radiotherapy, and/or chemotherapy more than one...
