Discussion

DR KENNETH L BRAYMAN (Charlottesville, VA): This is a comprehensive and timely retrospective analysis of patient survival after liver transplantation in patients with chronic kidney disease. The challenges associated with the inability to predict native renal recovery after liver transplantation persist, and this complicates the debate over allocation of scarce resources such as kidneys from deceased donors. The data presented today informed the debate, and we thank the authors for their contribution in providing the manuscript for my review ahead of time.
