Association of Oxidative Stress with Disease Activity and Damage in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: A Cross Sectional Study from a Tertiary Care Centre in Southern India
AbstractTo study oxidative stress in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) by estimating serum oxidised LDL (OxLDL), 8-hydroxy-2 ′-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG), malondialdehyde (MDA), and total anti-oxidant status and to correlate with SLE disease activity and disease damage. Eighty SLE patients satisfying the Systemic Lupus International Collaborating Clinics/American College of Rheumatology (SLICC/ACR) 2012 criteria and 80 hea lthy controls were studied. Exclusion criteria were infections, renal insufficiency, other connective tissue diseases, drug-induced lupus, smoking, alcohol consumption. Disease activity was measured by SLE disease activity index-2 K (SLEDAI), disease damage was quantified by SLICC-Damage Index (SDI ). Sera was tested for OxLDL, 8-OHdG, and total antioxidant status (TAS) by double-antibody sandwich ELISA; MDA measured byColorimetric assay. Oxidative stress markers were compared between group1- controls, group 2-mildly active SLE (SLEDAI ≤ 5), group 3- moderate to highly active SLE (SLEDAI ≥ 6). SLE patients had significantly higher MDA, 8-OHdG and lower TAS when compared to healthy controls, while OxLDL was similar in the three groups. MDA, 8-OHdG were significantly higher, TAS lower in group 3 compared to group 2. MDA had positive correlation with SLEDAI, TAS negatively correlated with SLEDAI. SLE with neuropsychiatric manifestations, vasculitis, anti-sdDNA antibodies had higher MDA, MDA/TAS ratio. SLE patients wi...

CONCLUSION: the findings have implications for the implementation of health promotion strategies among nursing students, in view of lifestyle changes. PMID: 32490956 [PubMed - in process]
CONCLUSION: BD on a single or multiple occasion during the month was associated with a higher prevalence of overweight. Therefore, such a lifestyle should be considered in weight gain prevention strategies. PMID: 32490946 [PubMed - in process]
This study will contribute in the development of cell culture in fermenter and synthesis of antioxidant secondary metabolites for commercial uses. PMID: 32490684 [PubMed - in process]
I've finished my AMCAS application and am ready to send it in...almost. I'm conflicted over whether or not I should write the disadvantaged student essay. To make a long story relatively short, my parents divorced when I was five, and my dad subsequently became absent from my life until 11th grade-ish. My mom developed alcoholism after the divorce and became very volatile (and incredibly abusive, but I'm not sure if I should mention that); she did not receive a formal education, and... Should I write the disadvantaged student essay?

CONCLUSION: These data suggest that uridine exhibits antioxidative properties which may mediate the protective effects of uridine in a neonatal rat model of hyperoxic brain injury. PMID: 32490647 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
CONCLUSIONS: PNH should be considered during differential diagnosis among patients with idiopathic PVT. Small PNH clones can be detected in PVT patients that we cannot clearly determine its relationship with PVT. We need furthermore studies to explore the potential role of this finding. METHODS: The study was carried out on 30 female rats separated into 3 groups as sham, control (IRI), and treatment (IRI+ABS) groups. In IRI+ABS group, 0.5 ml/day ABS was given for 7 days before surgery. In IRI and IRI+ABS groups, hepatic pedicle was clamped for 30 minutes to apply ischemia. Then, after opening...

A competent vector (A. albopictus) is present in most of Southern Europe and is endemic in Italy. We conducted a 16-year retrospective study of probable/confirmed dengue fever observed at the Department of Infectious Diseases of Luigi Sacco Hospital in Milan, Ital...
