The EVOLUTion from R to PRO: Has there been any PROgress?

In the field of prosthetic transcatheter heart valves (THV) it has become a tradition to compare outcomes of different generations within a device family. This approach is justified and necessary to demonstrate potential improvements of the successor models, but also potential deteriorations, as it is unlikely – and probably unethical – that anyone would conduct a randomized comparison. Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) has evolved to a sophisticated procedure and has become a cornerstone in the treatment of severe aortic stenosis [1].
