Precise therapeutic effect of self-assembling gold nanocluster –PTEN complexes on an orthotropic model of liver cancer

ConclusionThis is a simply and effectively method to realize liver cancer imaging and inhibition. This may raise the possibility for the accurate image/diagnosis and simultaneously efficient treatment of liver cancer in the relevant clinic application.

Authors: Pablo A, Breaud AR, Clarke W Abstract Bone marrow transplantation is used to treat particular types of cancers such as lymphoma, leukemia, and multiple myeloma. Appropriate dosing of busulfan during the preparative phase is critical for a successful allograft; if blood concentrations get too high significant liver toxicity can occur, if blood concentrations are too low, then graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) can develop. Busulfan monitoring in blood allows hospitals with the opportunity to provide individualized medicine to patients and improve overall patient outcome. Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spec...

ConclusionsSuccessful local ablative therapy before liver transplantation is an independent statistically significant factor in long-term tumor-related survival for patients with HCC in cirrhosis and reduces tumor recurrences.

We reported the therapeutic effects of TATI in four patients with advanced HCC. All patients underwent TACE treatment at the beginning of disease diagnosis. During follow-up, all patients were treated with microwave ablation because of a residual tumor or recurrence. For tumor control, apatinib, a TKI, was administered after ablation. If the tumor was resistant to the TKI, we continued to apatinib therapy in combination with immunotherapy (camrelizumab). All the four patients had better survival benefits and no serious adverse effects.

Abstract Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) and primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) are immune-mediated chronic liver diseases. PSC is a rare disorder characterized by multi-focal bile duct strictures and progressive liver diseases that ultimately results in the need for liver transplantation in most patients. Imaging studies, such as MRCP, have an essential role in the diagnosis of most cases of PSC. PSC is usually accompanied by inflammatory bowel disease, and there is a high risk of cholangiocarcinoma and colorectal cancer in PSC. No medical therapies have been proven to delay the progression of PSC. Endoscopic...

Cardiac Cancer (CC) that arises from or involves the heart can present as heart failure, chest pain, stroke or another thromboembolic event. Although patients with CC have limited treatment options, in other organ cancers such as hepatocellular carcinoma, liver transplant improves 5-year overall survival in carefully selected patients1. For CC, however, the benefit of replacing the cancerous heart is uncertain because one-year survival is generally estimated around 50% after this rare operation.

Liver transplantation for cholangiocarcinoma has been an absolute contraindication worldwide due to poor results. However, in recent years and thanks to improvements of patient management and treatments of this cancer, this indication has been revisited. This consensus paper, approved by the International Liver Transplant Society, aims to provide a collection of expert opinions, consensus, and best practices surrounding liver transplantation for cholangiocarcinoma.

Although liver transplantation (LT) is the best treatment for patients with localized hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), recurrence occurs in 6%–18% of patients. Several factors, particularly morphological criteria combined with dynamic parameters, known before LT modify this risk and combined in prediction models may be used to stratify patients at need of variable surveillance strategies. Additional variables though likely explain differences in recurrence rates in patients with the same pre-LT HCC status. One of these variables is possibly immunosuppression (IS). Once recurrence takes place, management is highly hete...

CONCLUSIONS: This novel drug might be a useful method to allow doctors to guarantee a better chance for long-term survival in recurrent, metastatic HCC patients with previous LT. However, it should be used with caution in allograft recipients due to the risk of acute graft rejection, further larger, prospective studies are needed to determine optimal immunomodulatory therapy to achieve optimal anti-tumor efficacy with transplant liver preservation.
