Chip Measures Stiffness of Extracellular Matrix to Spot Disease

Living cells inside our bodies are normally surrounded by an extracellular matrix, a supporting structure, that contains substances such as collagen and enzymes that help cells to function properly. When disease, particularly cancer, is present, the ...

This study investigated the expression of miRNA-182 and miRNA-187 in prostate cancer patients and established a correlation between miRNA expression and staging of prostate cancer. Materials and Methods This prospective observational study involved patients undergoing transrectal ultrasound-guided biopsy for suspicion of prostate cancer. Pre-biopsy urine samples and prostatic core tissue samples of the patients were preserved and the miRNA-182 and miRNA-187 were studied. Results Sixty-three patients were included in this study, thirty-three patients were diagnosed with prostate cancer and thirty patients having benign hist...

Sono-photodynamic therapy (SPDT) activates the same photo-/sonosensitizer and exerts more marked antitumor effects than sonodynamic therapy or photodynamic therapy. We aimed to explore the utilization of curcumin (CUR)-loaded poly(L-lactide-co-glycolide) microbubble (MB)-mediated SPDT (CUR-PLGA-MB-SPDT) in HepG2 liver cancer cells. The cytotoxicity and intracellular accumulation of CUR were determined. We used 40 µM CUR as the photo-/sonosensitizer for 3 h. In a comparison of CUR-SDT or CUR-PDT, HepG2 cell viability decreased and apoptotic rate increased in CUR-SPDT.

This study aims to assess the use of contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) and dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) in the evaluation of percutaneous microwave ablation (PMWA) of localized adenomyosis. Materials and Methods: Sixty-six patients with single-onset adenomyosis who underwent PMWA at the Liaocheng Tumor Hospital of Shandong Province from January 2013 to February 2019 were enrolled. Venous CEUS and DCE-MRI examinations were performed before and 1-2 days after the surgery. The ablation rates calculated by CEUS and DCE-MRI were compared and analyzed for accuracy. Results: After microw...
