We present the case of a man on continuous cycler peritoneal dialysis with disabling fatigue and moderate restless legs syndrome (RLS). Actigraphy demonstrated excessive nocturnal movement. Unattended home polysomnography, performed during his regular peritoneal dialysis, confirmed frequent nocturnal periodic limb movements with disturbed sleep. Treatment with low dose pramipexole led to improved RLS and marked improvement in his energy. Clinicians caring for patients with ESRD should have a low threshold for objective sleep assessment given that sleep disorders are common, disabling and eminently amenable to treatment.Cit...

AbstractPurpose of ReviewWe aimed to review the sleep disorders described in Wilson ’s disease (WD), focusing on their mechanisms and treatments.Recent FindingsREM sleep behavior disorder or sleepiness can be warning signs of future WD. These early symptoms may significantly reduce the time to WD diagnosis. Early anti-copper therapies (chelators or zinc salts), reducing copper accumulation in the brain and though saving brain tissue, can allow the complete disappearance of these sleep disorders and of course improve the other symptoms of WD.SummaryInsomnia, restless legs syndrome (RLS), daytime sleepiness, cataplexy,...

Abstract Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a nocturnal neurological disorder affecting up to 10% of the population. It is characterized by an urge to move and uncomfortable sensations in the legs which can be relieved by movements. Mutations in BTBD9 may confer a higher risk of RLS. We developed Btbd9 knockout mice as an animal model. Functional alterations in the cerebral cortex, especially the sensorimotor cortex, have been found in RLS patients in several imaging studies. However, the role of cerebral cortex in the pathogenesis of RLS remains unclear. To explore this, we used in vivo manganese-enhanced MRI and fo...

AbstractPurpose of reviewThe aim of this article was to review the options and particularities of the treatment of restless legs syndrome (RLS) in Parkinson ’s disease (PD).Recent findingsRLS is more frequent in PD than in the general population. Even if these two disorders share some specificity (dopa-sensitivity), they also differ in many features (iron load, genetic profile, dopaminergic cell count), resulting in different adaptations of the treatment. Only one study has specifically explored and demonstrated the efficacy of a treatment (rotigotine) in RLS with PD, constraining us to treat RLS with PD by analogy a...
