The role of stress and self-efficacy in somatic and psychological symptoms during the climacteric period – Is there a specific association?

The menopause as a natural phase during a woman ’s life with physical, mental, and social changes is currently in the scientific focus. A differentiated understanding of factors influencing the experience of this phase of life is important in order to avoid pathologisation with uncritical causal attribution of various physical or mental symptom s to the climacteric on the one hand and trivialisation with negation of symptom burden on the other. About one third of women have no or little symptoms in this phase of life, one third report moderate symptoms, one third show more severe impairments [1].
