Impact of changing the admission process of patients with pneumonia on the length of stay in the emergency department
Timely specialist consultations are indispensable for safe, high-quality care for patients in the emergency department (ED). However, consultation delays can affect patient flow and contribute to prolonged length of stay (LOS) in the ED, which in turn leads to ED overcrowding [1-3]. Prolonged LOS and overcrowding in the ED could be connected not only to patient dissatisfaction and compromised emergent care but also to increased patient mortality [4-6].
