Conclusions: Although bevacizumab caused atrophy of the pancreas and reduced pancreatic volume, pancreatic endocrine function showed no change. Future studies should investigate the survival rate and functional changes caused by bevacizumab treatment. PMID: 32432961 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Abstract Cisplatin (cis-Diaminedichloroplatinum) is one of the most effective chemotherapeutic because of its anti-neoplastic properties against various types of tumor. However, it has a wide variety of side effects such as hepato, gastrointestinal, neuro, nephro, and cardiotoxicity (acute and/or chronic) that highly restricted its usage. Thus, research work was planned to detect the role of gold (AuNPs), silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and Ag@AuNPs as core-shell in enhancing the benefits of blackberry extract in treatment of cisplatin-induced cardiotoxicity. In our work, solid-state process was used in order to prep...

We present a systematic study of the effect of seven neuroleptic drugs on a biomembrane model composed of DPPC, sphingomyelin, and cholesterol. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) measurements were used to monitor the gel-fluid phase transition of the lipid bilayer at three pH values and also as a function of drug concentration. The implementation of a new methodology to mix lipids homogeneously allowed us to assemble bilayers completely free of organic solvents. The seven neuroleptics were: trifluoperazine, haloperidol decanoate, clozapine, quetiapine, olanzapine, aripiprazole, and amisulpride. The DSC results show th...

ConclusionThe opposite effect ofB. fragilis,B. thetaiotaomicron and related OMVs on theNPC1L1 gene expression was observed in Caco-2 cells. Interestingly, these effects partially were in line with the alternation ofLXRs expression. However, based on pathway enrichment analysis, further molecular investigations are required to elaborate in details the specific association betweenBacteroides spp. and OMVs with regulation of cholesterol signaling pathways including cholesterol transport, lipid storage, lipid homeostasis and cholesterol homeostasis.

In conclusion, elevated brain amyloid was associated with family history and APOE ε4 allele but not with multiple other previously reported risk factors for AD. Elevated amyloid was associated with lower test performance results and increased reports of subtle recent declines in daily cognitive function. These results support the hypothesis that elevated amyloid represents an early stage in the Alzheimer's continuum. Blood Metabolites as a Marker of Frailty Frailty in older people is usually diagnosed in a sympt...

In this study, a kind of Aspergillus fumigatus (LSD-1) was isolated from cigar leaves, and the biosorption effects on the stigmasterol, β-sitosterol, campesterol, cholesterol, and ergosterol by using living and dead biomass of LSD-1 were investigated. The results showed that both living and dead biomass could efficiently remove these sterols in aqueous solution and tobacco waste extract (TWE). Interestingly, compared with the living biomass of LSD-1, the dead biomass of LSD-1 not only kept a high adsorption efficiency but also did not produce ergosterol. Overall, dead biomass of LSD-1 was a more suitable biosorbent to...

Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) is usually seen in premature infants who require mechanical ventilation and oxygen therapy for acute respiratory distress. Although most patients wean from oxygen therapy by the ages of 2 to 3, rehospitalization for respiratory problems is common in these patients in adulthood. There have been few studies that document the long-term outcomes of BPD survivors and information about the pulmonary function and radiographic findings of adult BPD are limited. Data on pathologic features of adult BPD are scarce. Three adult patients who underwent recent lung transplantation for BPD from 2 institut...

CONCLUSIONS: A high prevalence of cold-activated BAT was found in the study participants. BAT could be important in decreasing metabolic dysfunction among young adults with obesity, making it a potential target for treating metabolically unhealthy obesity. Higher levels of serum glycated albumin and the glycated albumin  : hemoglobin A1c ratio, but not hemoglobin A1c, were significantly associated with global brain and hippocampal atrophy. These significant associations were still observed in the sensitivity analysis after excluding individuals with dementia and mild cognitive impairment. Glycemic variability might be closely associated with the risk of global brain and hippocampus atrophy. AbstractAims/IntroductionTo investigate the association of alternative glycemic measures – namely, serum glycated albumin (GA), hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) and the GA  :&n...
