Robotic Surgery

Throughout the history of surgery, we surgeons have had to wrestle with how to incorporate new ideas and technology. As our understanding of the human condition has evolved, that task has become sometimes easier and sometimes less easy. For the first 6000 years or so of recorded surgical history, everything we could do didn ’t really make that much of an impact on overall longevity or societal cost. Of course, there were some large gains here and there, but much of what improved health and longevity was outside of the traditional confines of surgery.
