Higher concentrations of IGF-1 are a probable cause of breast cancer

(European Society for Medical Oncology) A growth hormone called insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) is likely to play a role in the development of breast cancer, according to two complementary studies published in Annals of Oncology. One study looked at associations between blood levels of IGF-1 and the chances of the disease developing in over 200,000 women, and the second is a Mendelian randomization analysis of 265 variants of genes, which is able to show that IGF-1 is likely to play a causal role.
