Locally unresectable differentiated thyroid cancer: outcomes and perspectives

ConclusionsClinical trials and approved treatments are lacking for unresectable DTC. TKI treatment may allow prolonged disease control with acceptable toxicity.

Mutated IDH1/2 produces the metabolite 2-hydroxyglutarate (2HG), which interferes with epigenetic regulation of gene expression, and thus may promote tumorigenesis. Data for IDH1 inhibitors show that 30-40% of AML patients respond to monotherapy with a median duration of response of 8 mont...

Discussion Galactorrhea is a milky discharge from the breast in a non-lactating female. Neonatal galactorrhea is sometimes called “Witch’s Milk” based on ideas from the 17th century or earlier that witches would steal the milk for use in their magic. Infant breasts were often compressed to express the fluid and prevent its collection. During the 19th century, reports of breast inflammation and even abscess were reported because of this practice and it was strongly discouraged, and continues to not be recommended today. Enlargement of neonatal breasts and galactorrhea, both for males and females, is fel...

This study included 3435 PTCs, 1985 of which were PTMCs. We performed targeted next-generation sequencing for 221 PTCs and integrated these data with the data including The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) project. The frequency of v-raf murine sarcoma viral oncogene homolog B (BRAF)V600E mutation was higher in PTMCs >0.5 cm than that in very small PTMCs (≤0.5 cm) and decreased again in PTCs >2 cm. Among PTMCs, the prevalence of mutations in rat sarcoma (RAS) and telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) promoter was not significantly different according to their size, but lower than in large PTCs. There was n...

ConclusionsANXA10 expression was upregulated in PTC, and it was an independent prognostic biomarker of PTC, suggesting that ANXA10 may be a promising target for individual treatment of ANXA10.

Abstract Medullary thyroid cancer (MTC) is the third most common thyroid cancer. RET (Rearranged in Transformation) gene mutations are considered as one of the major drivers of MTC. Vandetanib suppresses RET activity, and has shown promise in clinical trials. Unfortunately, acquired resistance to vandetanib has been observed in MTC, although the mechanism was largely unknown. We investigated the critical role of YAP (Yes-Associated Protein) on vandetanib resistance in MTC. For this, TT cells (medullary thyroid cancer cells) were treated with vandetanib for 3 months to generate a vandetanib-resistant cell line (TT-...

Abstract COTI (collar therapy indicator) has been recently introduced for the detection of gamma rays with emphasis on thyroid investigations. The aim of this study was to test the feasibility of a prototype version of COTI including activity detectors with low sensitivity in performing thyroid uptake measurements for a large group of patients. Consequently, thyroid uptake tests were carried out for a total of 89 patients (22 males and 67 females; age: 44 ± 13 years) with thyroid cancer (n = 74), hyperthyroidism (n = 16) at 2 and 24 h after administration ...

CONCLUSIONS: Propofol suppresses migration, invasion, and EMT in papillary thyroid carcinoma cells by regulating miR-122 expression. The findings may indicate significant clinical implications for anesthetic agents to prevent metastasis and improve outcomes in papillary thyroid carcinoma. PMID: 32432774 [PubMed - in process]
