Study Finds Earlier Age for Colorectal Cancer Diagnoses

Half of all new diagnoses of colorectal cancer (CRC) in the United States are now in people 66 or younger, according to the American Cancer Society (ACS). ... That statistic, according to ACS, illu...

Abstract Even though earlier reports have revealed that Aquaporin 8 (AQP8) exert essential roles in diverse malignancies, its relationship between specific microRNAs (miRNAs) in regulation of colorectal carcinoma (CRC) progression has never been elaborated. Herein, we proved that AQP8 was downregulated in CRC and high level of AQP8 was significantly associated with better survival in CRC patients. Overexpression of AQP8 restrained CRC cell proliferation, migration and invasion capacities in vitro. In vivo, upregulation of AQP8 also suppressed CRC cell growth. Mechanistic analyses illustrated that AQP8 wa...

Authors: Zhylkaidarova A, Kaidarova D, Batyrbekov K, Shatkovskaya O, Begimbetova D Abstract We carried out an analysis of the total incidence of colon cancer throughout Kazakhstan. Retrospectively, according to the regional reports on endoscopic screening, the study showed an increase in the age-related incidence of colorectal cancer (CRC) cases from 2004-2008 to 2009-2014. The peak of morbidity in both periods was noted in the age category of>70 years. The indicators of the territorial distribution of CRC incidence make it possible to divide the regions into areas with low or high rates of CRC. Specific indicat...

In this study we used unbiased approach in the lung cancer and colon cell lines (A549 and HTC 116 respectively) to identify universal early transcriptomic signatures of C-1305 cytotoxicity, and to highlight novel pathways responsible for its biological activity. The data obtained with real time analysis was used to select appropriate doses for subsequent RNAseq and biochemical analysis. Furthermore, the RNA samples prior RNA-seq analysis were pre-verified for transcriptomic activation of apoptosis related pathways via qPCR . Since our real time analysis of cell growth have shown that 24 h exposure to C-1305 (at IC50 concen...

ConclusionThis model can be used to evaluate strategies for the allocation of adjuvant chemotherapy in stage II CC patients. In future studies, the model will be used to estimate population-level long-term health gain and cost-effectiveness of biomarker-based selection strategies.

In this study, we characterized MICA alleles in tissue samples from 104 patients with CRC and 536 healthy controls and carried out genetic association studies by molecular and clinical CRC phenotypes. Preliminary sequence analysis revealed that MICA ∗009:01 or ∗049 alleles were significantly decreased in patients with CRC (p = 0.0049), and further stratification analysis indicated that MICA ∗012:01 allele was associated with patients with CRC and carrying KRAS codon 12 mutation (p = 0.027). The functional consequences of MICA alleles were examined via transfected CRC cell lines which showed that overex...

ConclusionsThe MPA and TRS models constructed in this paper, as well as the PPI network and integrated pathway analysis, could not only help detect PRBs as potential therapeutic targets for COAD patients but also make it a paradigm for the prognostic analysis of other cancers.
