Post tuberculosis treatment infectious complications
Patients with pulmonary tuberculosis (TB), even after cure, may develop further respiratory infections and lung disease, which may become chronic, leading to greater morbidity and mortality (Hnizdo et al., 2000). Exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), bronchiectasis, and pneumonia are more frequent after pulmonary TB (Amaral et al., 2015; Byrne et al., 2015). Lung aging is accelerated, especially in the presence of smoking and atmospheric pollution (Glaser et al., 2015; van Zyl Smit et al., 2010).
