Persistent left superior vena cava in patient with right atrial myxoma undergoing open heart surgery. A case report and review of literature
Mostafa Elhamamsy, A Aldemerdash, F Zahran, BM Bakir, Nouf A Alanazi, Yasser Abdulrahman Awadallah, Sami Ibrahim Haggag, Mahmoud Salama AlshiekhSaudi Journal of Anaesthesia 2020 14(2):217-220 Persistent left superior vena cava (PLSVC) is a rare and asymptomatic congenital cardiovascular anomaly. Being asymptomatic, PLSVC was usually discovered while performing interventions (such as insertion of central lines, Swan-Ganz catheters, or placing pacemakers) through the left internal jugular vein or left subclavian veins. Commonly, PLSVC is detected not only as an isolated congenital anomaly, but also it can be associated with many other cardiac anomalies. Also, presence of a dilated coronary sinus on echocardiography should raise the suspicion of PLSVC. The diagnosis should be confirmed by contrast venography or computed tomography angiography. The present case is a female patient, 29 year old, who was undergoing elective excision of a right atrial mass, with closure of patent foramen ovale, and she had end-stage renal failure on regular hemodialysis three times weekly through a permicath inserted in the right subclavian vein.
Do you guys ever get pissed off when people in the general public do not really know what we do and our training to get to where we are? Little do they know we can transition from being primary care to emergency room to critical care doctors in a blink of an eye. What do you guys say to the misinformed that think all we did is push some medications into an IV and then wake someone back up?
ConclusionsThe e-ASPECTS software generates robust values for e-ASPECTS and acute infarct volumes when using ST ≤ 4 mm with ST = 1 mm yielding the best performance for predicting baseline stroke severity and clinical outcome after 90 days.Key Points•Clinical utility of automatically derived ASPECTS from computed tomography scans was shown in patients with acute ischemic stroke and treatment with mechanical thrombectomy.•Thin slices (= 1 mm) had the highest clinical utility in comparison with thicker slices (2–10 mm) by having the strongest correlation...
This study, for instance, attributes a patient’s waitlist/transplant outcome to the very last dialysis facility the patient was associated with. In epidemiology speak, this means the causal inference authors are trying to draw between for-profit status and good transplant outcomes is subject to time-varying confounding. As an example, if one is seeking an association between testosterone levels and risk of a heart attack, using the last testosterone level available would be a poor way of doing this study because testosterone levels are known to vary over time. The same applies to dialysis facilities. Patie...

AbstractBackgroundWe measured myocardial blood flow (MBF) and myocardial perfusion reserve (MPR) by a dynamic low-dose CZT-SPECT protocol in patients with suspected or known coronary artery disease (CAD) and investigated the capability of dynamic data in predicting obstructive CAD. A total of 173 patients with suspected or known CAD underwent dynamic CZT-SPECT after the injection of 155 MBq and 370 MBq of99mTc-sestamibi for rest and stress imaging, respectively. Standard rest and stress imaging were performed at the end of each dynamic scan. A total perfusion defect (TPD)
BACKGROUND: Availability of data to assess the population health and provision and quality of health care in Saudi Arabia has been lacking. In 2010, Saudi Arabia began a major investment and transformation programme in the health-care sector. Here we asses...
We present a patient with a ruptured basilar tip aneurysm treated under conscious sedation via a right radial approach using the Woven EndoBridge device. We discuss the technical aspects of the case as the well as the available literature on the treatment of ruptured aneurysms treated without general anaesthesia. We discuss the potential benefits of the Woven EndoBridge device in such situations. PMID: 32443960 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
CONCLUSION: Radiological imaging is essential for the management of patients affected by lung cancer. PMID: 32445458 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
Conclusions An STS composite performance measure was developed for MVRR + CABG operations. This measure may be useful for outcome assessment, quality improvement, patient counseling, clinical research, and public reporting.
