Wild Bird-Origin H5N6 Avian Influenza Virus is Transmissible in Guinea Pigs
Recent research in this journal, has reported that several substations associated with cross-species transmission from avian to humans were observed in H5N6 Avian Influenza Virus (AIV), increasing the potential ability of human infections with H5N6 AIVs, although there is no evidence of human-to-human transmission of H5N6 AIV.1 Since the first human case of H5N6 AIV was confirmed in Sichuan province, China in 2014, a total of 23 human cases have been reported with 7 of those being fatal. As the natural reservoirs for AIVs, wild birds have a crucial role in viral dissemination.
