Improving Triage of After-Hours Radiology Examinations Through Worklist Unification

Workflow optimization is important for the success of any organization, including a radiology department [1,2]. Computerized worklists were first envisioned in the early days of PACS [3,4] to optimize the segments of the departmental workflow involving image interpretation. Radiologist workflow during daytime hours is often segmented by criteria such as subspecialty, modality, or hospital site and is distributed across multiple radiologists via corresponding worklists. After hours, fewer radiologists usually cover the same number of modalities, clinical specialties, body parts, and hospitals.
