Superb microvascular imaging compared with contrast-enhanced ultrasound to assess microvessels in thyroid nodules

ConclusionSMI-BF grade was more affected by vessels of larger inner diameter, while CEUS-EI was more affected by vessels of smaller inner diameter. SMI alone is sufficient for evaluation of blood flow in thyroid nodules, and the diagnostic value of SMI-BF of the periphery is comparable to CEUS hypoenhancement to differentiate thyroid cancer.

AbstractPurposeTo report the clinical, ultrasound and histopathological characteristics, clinical management, and prognosis of 13 patients with Sertoli-Leydig cell tumors (SLCTs) of ovary.Methods13 patients with pathologically confirmed ovarian SLCTs at International Peace Maternity and Child Health Hospital from 2010 and 2019 were included in this study. The clinical, ultrasound and histopathological characteristics, clinical management, and prognosis of 13 patients were retrospectively analyzed.ResultsThe age ranged 25 –68 years. Of the 8 (62%) patients presenting endocrine symptoms, 4 had post-menopausal hemo...

Authors: Gao L, Wang J, Jiang Y, Gao Q, Wang Y, Xi X, Zhang B Abstract To evaluate the effectiveness of the number of central compartment lymph nodes (CLNs) on ultrasound (US) in predicting CLN metastasis (CLNM). We prospectively studied 309 papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) patients who underwent thyroidectomy with CLN dissection at our center from May 2017 to July 2017. The number and features of CLNs were evaluated preoperatively via US. All US examinations were performed using a Philips iU 22 or a GE Logiq 9 machine. Correlations between CLNs observed via preoperative US and amount of CLNM were evaluated. We found...

Conclusion: Studies evaluating ethnic cancer disparities among patients with thyroid cancer are limited and do not specifically focus on the French Afro-Caribbean population. Despite rare thyroid incidentaloma, 35% of the papillary cancer cases were micropapillary carcinoma, and the incidence and standardized mortality rate in Martinique are lower than in metropolitan France. The malignant risk distribution of thyroid FNA Bethesda classification in this sample population differs from the standard risk, and it is necessary to take that into account in the decision to operate by associating it with echographic malignancy cri...

Conclusion Despite of low CR rate (8.6%), most patients with DTC and iodine avid bone metastases had SD (46.2%) and long lived (88.2%). Adjunctive radiotherapy reduced PD and improved outcome. Males, extra thyroid extension and vascular invasion were bad prognostic factors.

AbstractPurposeTo investigate the value of ultrasound (US) and clinicopathological features of papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) in predicting Telomerase Reverse Transcriptase (TERT) promoter mutations.MethodsPreoperative US images of 351 surgically confirmed PTCs were evaluated in terms of PTCs size and US features. The basic clinicopathological features were also retrieved. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to identify the risk factors for TERT promoter mutations. A scoring system was developed based on the cumulative number of risk factors. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) ...

Authors: Zhang M, Tufano RP, Russell J, Zhang Y, Zhang Y, Qiao Z, Luo Y Abstract BACKGROUND: Papillary thyroid micro-carcinoma (PTMC) typically carries an excellent prognosis regardless of the treatment option pursued. Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) for thyroid disease has been utilized for benign lesions and in patients who are poor surgical candidates for thyroid cancers with compression symptoms, but the efficacy and limitations of RFA as first line therapy for PTMC has not been described in adequate detail. The purpose of our study was to investigate RFA versus thyroidectomy in terms of efficacy, oncologic outco...

Abstract PURPOSE: To explore the clinical value of ultrasound in the diagnosis of medullary thyroid carcinoma by comparing with enhanced computed tomography. METHODS: This retrospective study was performed on 62 patients with pathologically confirmed medullary thyroid carcinoma. All patients underwent ultrasound and enhanced computed tomography examinations before surgery. The findings of the pathologic examination of resected specimens were considered as gold standard and were compared with the results of these 2 methods. RESULTS: There were 73 medullary thyroid carcinoma lesions and 29 benign lesions i...
