EP News: Basic and Translational
Recent studies for cardiac cell-based therapy have demonstrated significant improvements in cardiac function. However, there are high incidences of ventricular arrhythmias in animal models of myocardial infarction (MI) injected with pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes (PSC-CMs). The current study by Yu et al (Sci Rep 2019; 9:9238; PMID: 31239508) examined the underlying mechanisms of arrhythmogenesis. The authors provided a comprehensive computational modeling of direct remuscularization approaches to cell therapy using multiscale 3D whole-heart modeling integrating representations of cell delivery and transdifferentiation therapy modalities as well as representation of spatial distributions of engrafted cells.
