CONCLUSION: Here, we present what, to the best of our knowledge, is the first reported case in which durvarumab resistance after definitive chemoradiotherapy in a patient with stage III pulmonary sarcomatoid carcinoma was overcome by pembrolizumab. PMID: 32245391 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Authors: Chen T, Gilfix B, Rivera JA, Sadeghi N, Richardson K, Hier MP, Forest VI, Fishman D, Caglar D, Pusztaszeri M, Mitmaker EJ, Payne RJ Abstract Though the current gold standard for diagnosing thyroid nodule malignancy is ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (USFNA) cytology, about 20-25% of cytological evaluations are considered indeterminate for malignancy. This limitation has led to the emergence of next-generation sequencing panels, e.g. ThyroSeq v3 (TSv3), which recognize highly-diagnostic genetic mutations of common thyroid carcinomas in FNA samples and classifies them as test-negative or test-positi...

We present a case of a nodule on the earlobe of an elderly patient, without any known clinical history. Microscopic examination revealed a tumor with morphology reminiscent of metastatic clear cell renal cell carcinoma. The results of an extensive immunohistochemical (IHC) examination confirmed our initial diagnosis and further investigation of the patient's medical history revealed that a unilateral nephrectomy had been performed 27 years prior to the current tumor. We are reporting this case to emphasize the long interval between the primary tumor and its metastasis in an extremely unusual site, with a brief discussion o...

Authors: Roşu GA, Furău GO, Ionescu CA, Dimitriu MCT, Neacşu A, Ioan RG, Călin FD, Matei A, Bănacu M, Popescu I, Gheorghiu D, Neacşu I, Bacalbaşa N, Furău CG Abstract Epithelial ovarian carcinoma makes up 90-95% of all ovarian malignancies, taking into account also low-malignant-potential tumors. The Krukenberg tumor is a rare metastatic adenocarcinoma (ADK) in the ovary, representing 1-2% of ovarian tumors. Multiple primary malignant neoplasms may exist when more than one cancerous tumor is diagnosed in the same or a different organ. The incidence of multiple primary cancers among malignancies is between 2...

Authors: Vatamanesku I, Parasca SV, Parasca OM, Vaida FA, Mehedinţi MC, Grosu F, Ciurea ME Abstract Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most frequent skin cancer and its location in the nasal pyramid poses treatment problems. The main issue is how large the resection margins should be. The article presents a retrospective study on patients with BCCs of the nose. Thirty-seven patients were included and the correlations between incomplete resections and tumor dimensions, resection margins or histological sub-type were investigated. Of the 37 patients, only five had tumor-positive excision margins, but no correlation w...

Authors: Dobrescu AE, Basa SN, Cornianu M, Lazăr DC, Suciu SC, Tudor A, Viţa OC, Tarţă-Marcu DC, Barna RA, Lazăr OF Abstract BACKGROUND: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) represents a major public health issue, being associated with high morbidity and mortality rates. Previous studies have demonstrated that reduction and∕or absence of E-cadherin expression is correlated with a potential for invasion and low survival rate in patients with HCC. PATIENTS, MATERIALS AND METHODS: We assessed the immunohistochemical expression of E-cadherin in 32 HCCs and peritumoral hepatic tissues using monoclonal anti-E-cadher...
