Abstract Purpose: The study aimed at investigating the effect of local infiltration analgesia (LIA) with ropivacaine on postoperative analgesia for patients undergoing ankle fracture surgery. Methods: Consecutive patients were retrospectively included and analysed according to their medical records from July 2014 to August 2018 in a tertiary hospital. Inclusion criteria were patients undergoing open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) for ankle fractures under general anaesthesia. Moreover, patients should have received intravenous patient-controlled analgesia (iPCA) or LIA + iPCA for postope...
Conclusion: Our data suggest that peripartum exposure to neuraxial anesthesia may reduce the risk of childhood asthma primarily in males. Larger human studies and model systems with longer follow-up are required to elucidate these findings. PMID: 32212939 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Minors in Connecticut are not permitted to consent for prenatal care, including routine services on labor and delivery. When faced with a parent who adamantly refuses to consent for her daughter ’s epidural, we are forced to decline a patient’s request for anesthesia. This case report outlines legislation relating to treatment of minors in Connecticut and explores opportunities to eliminate the obstacles adolescents face to obtaining quality antepartum care.
Authors: Kamikawa A, Seko J Abstract Oxytocin, a posterior pituitary hormone, causes the contraction of the mammary myoepithelial cells that surround the acini. This ejects milk from the acini into the primary mammary ducts. The milk ejection responses by oxytocin have not yet been exactly evaluated in mice. Thus, we present a novel method for quantitatively evaluating oxytocin-induced milk ejection in anesthetized lactating mice. We cannulated the mammary duct, administered oxytocin intraperitoneally or intravenously, and collected and measured the ejected milk. Intraperitoneal oxytocin administration (150 mU) ind...
