Complement blockade is an effective therapeutic strategy for TA-TMA, but some patients with severe disease lack a complete response, prompting a search for additional targetable endothelial injury pathw...

Contributor : Yogita SharmaSeries Type : Expression profiling by high throughput sequencingOrganism : Homo sapiensSince the pioneering studies using fetal cell transplants in Parkinson ’s disease (PD), brain repair by cell replacement has remained a long-standing and realistic goal for the treatment of neurodegenerative disorders including PD. Authentic and functional dopamine (DA) neurons can now be generated from human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs), and these cell preparation s are both safe and functional when transplanted to animal models of PD1. However, although resulting grafts from fetal brain tissue and hPS...

Ekta Dhamija, Pankaj Meena, Vidyasagar Ramalingam, Ranjeet Sahoo, Sameer Rastogi, Sanjay ThulkarIndian Journal of Radiology and Imaging 2020 30(1):20-26 Chemotherapy while revolutionizing cancer management by improving survival and quality of life; is also associated with several adverse effects. Lung is the most common organ affected in chemotherapy-related complications, due to either drug toxicity or more commonly due to infections caused by immunosuppression and less commonly due to immune-mediated injury. Radiology, when used in combination with clinical and lab data, can help reach the specific diagnosis or narrow d...

This study, for the first time, shows that transplantation of non-autologous mitochondria from healthy skeletal muscle cells into normal cardiomyocytes leads to short-term improvement of bioenergetics indicating "supercharged" state. However, over time these improved effects disappear, which suggests transplantation of mitochondria may have a potential application in settings where there is an acute stress. Outlining Some of the Science Behind Partial Reprogramming at Tur...

Purpose of review This review provides a risk-stratified and evidence-based management for subsets of systemic sclerosis (SSc) patients in the first five years from disease onset. Recent findings Cardiopulmonary disease remains the primary cause of mortality in SSc patients. Morbidity and mortality in SSc-associated pulmonary arterial hypertension have improved with combination treatment, in either an upfront or sequential treatment pattern. Traditional therapies for interstitial lung disease (SSc-ILD) have targeted those with clinically significant and progressive ILD with immunosuppression. New data suggest a possib...

This study investigated the effects of human umbilical-cord mesenchymal stem cells (HUMSCs) injection on diabetic rat model. The results show that the level of MIAT is significantly decreased in the diabetic retina after the injection of HUMSCs. Moreover, HUMSCs can significantly decrease the expression of IL-1β and IL-6 mRNA; alleviate microvascular permeability, and upregulate Occludin expression. Studies have shown that MIAT knockdown could alleviate diabetes-induced inflammation responses and vascular leakage. Furthermore, our findings also showed that the expression of MIAT was positively correlated with the expr...

CONCLUSIONS: The HLCs attenuated liver fibrosis more efficiently when transplanted along with HUVECs and AMSCs, and this suggested that we could improve the efficiency of cell therapy by transplanting functional cells partially along with stromal cells. PMID: 32211118 [PubMed]

BACKGROUND Penetrating traumatic brain injury induces chronic inflammation that drives persistent tissue loss long after injury. Absence of endogenous reparative neurogenesis and effective neuroprotective therapies render injury-induced disability an unmet need. Cell replacement via neural stem cell transplantation could potentially rebuild the tissue and alleviate penetrating traumatic brain injury disability. The optimal transplant location remains to be determined. METHODS To test if subacute human neural stem cell (hNSC) transplant location influences engraftment, lesion expansion, and motor deficits, rats (n = 10...
