Treatment of basilar artery stenosis with an Apollo balloon-expandable stent: a single-centre experience with 61 consecutive cases

In this study, the Apollo BES appeared to be feasible for BA stenosis. Our experience may be valuable for reducing the number of complications. However, further study is needed.

AbstractThere were limited studies comparing the anterior (AC) and posterior (PC) circulation acute ischemic strokes (AIS). Our study aimed to evaluate distinct features of AC and PC strokes regarding clinical, vascular risk, pathogenesis and outcome factors after endovascular procedures. This multicenter prospective study registered 873 patients with acute large occlusion of anterior circulation stroke (ACS) and posterior circulation stroke (PCS). Patients who underwent endovascular procedures were included in this study. The differences in ACS and PCS regarding baseline characteristics, post-operative intracranial hemorr...

Device profile of different paclitaxel-coated balloons: Neuro Elutax SV, Elutax "3" Neuro and SeQuent Please NEO for the treatment of symptomatic intracranial high-grade stenosis: overview of their feasibility and safety. Expert Rev Med Devices. 2020 Jan 21;: Authors: Gruber P, Remonda L Abstract Introduction: Intracranial atherosclerotic disease (ICAD) is highly prevalent and probably the most common cause of stroke worldwide. Despite best medical treatment (BMT), the rate of recurrent stroke in symptomatic ICAD patients is elevated, especially in those with high-grade stenosis. Thus, altern...

Pocket-size ultrasound devices that cost 50 times less than the machines in hospitals (and connect to your phone). Virtual reality that speeds healing in rehab. Artificial intelligence that’s better than medical experts at spotting lung tumors. These are just some of the innovations now transforming medicine at a remarkable pace. No one can predict the future, but it can at least be glimpsed in the dozen inventions and concepts below. Like the people behind them, they stand at the vanguard of health care. Neither exhaustive nor exclusive, the list is, rather, representative of the recasting of public health and medic...

Publication date: Available online 4 October 2019Source: Interdisciplinary NeurosurgeryAuthor(s): Mateja de Leonni Stanonik, Christopher Sy, Cameron McDougall, Lee Birnbaum, Justin MascitelliAbstractA 59-year-old male presented with a severe left middle cerebral artery (MCA) syndrome, a National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) of 17, and was last known well 26 hours prior. Computed tomography angiography (CTA) of the head demonstrated a tandem extracranial ICA and intracranial ICA/MCA occlusion. Computed tomography perfusion (CTP) demonstrated a large mismatch. The patient underwent a mechanical thrombectomy usin...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Conventional angioplasty of cerebral vasospasm combines proximal balloon angioplasty (up to the first segment of cerebral arteries) with chemical angioplasty for distal arteries. Distal balloon angioplasty (up to the second segment of cerebral arteries) has been used in our center instead of chemical angioplasty since January 2015. We aimed to assess the effect of this new approach in patients with aneurysmal SAH. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The occurrence, date, territory, and cause of any cerebral infarction were retrospectively determined and correlated to angioplasty procedures. Delayed cerebral inf...

Background and Aims: A plaque may rupture with high risk of subsequent thrombus- mediated acute clinical events such as myocardial infarction and stroke. The aim of this study was to generate a reproducible experimental hamster abdominal aorta model of atherothrombotic stenosis with morphological similarities to the human disease.
