‘Nonagenarians’ with a hip fracture: is a different orthogeriatric treatment strategy necessary?

ConclusionNonagenarians differ from patients aged 70 –79 and 80–89 years in baseline characteristics, complication and mortality rates. Differences increased gradually with age. The results of this study can be used, in combination with the Almelo Hip Fracture Score, to deliver efficiently targeted orthogeriatric treatment to the right patient gr oup.

Conclusion: Based on the findings from our study, anaemia in pregnancy is still of primary public health concern if WHO cutoff is used for the diagnosis. However, the reduction observed when less than 30% haematocrit was used tags our study zone to be of moderate severity. Although all variables lacked statistical significance, younger age, no formal education, and unemployment were highlighted to be predisposing factors. The objective of this study was to assess the value of a preoperative Prognostic Nutritional Index (PNI) for predicting the survival of patients with nonmetastatic renal cell carcinoma (RCC) treated with partial or radical nephrectomy. Materials and Methods: The medical records of 480 patients with RCC who underwent partial or radical nephrectomy at 2 institutions between June 1994 and July 2017 were retrospectively reviewed. After the exclusion of 21 patients with lymph node or distant metastasis, the data of 459 patients with nonmetastatic RCC were included. The PNI was calculated using a combination of serum albumin ...

In the recent years, the progress in genetic analysis and next-generation sequencing technologies have opened up exciting landscapes for diagnosis and study of molecular mechanisms, allowing the determination of a particular mutation for individual patients suffering from hereditary red blood cell-related diseases or anemia. However, the huge amount of data obtained makes the interpretation of the results and the identification of the pathogenetic variant responsible for the diseases sometime difficult. Moreover, there is increasing evidence that the same mutation can result in varying cellular properties and different sym...
