Bipolar hemiarthroplasty for the treatment of femoral neck fractures with minimally invasive anterior approach in elderly

The direct anterior approach (DAA), described by Carl Hueter in 1881, was first applied for hip replacement by Robert Judet in 1947 [1]. Later on, O'Brien et al used the DAA during hip hemiarthroplasty to avoid the post-operative immobilization and provide early physiotherapy for the patients [2]. In 1996, Joel Matta adopted this approach for total hip replacement, initiating a larger application of DAA worldwide [3]. Using the anterior technique, the hip joint can be approached by preserving the muscle [4,5].
