Abstract No. 410 The role for interventional radiology in the management and treatment of giant hepatic hemangiomas

Hemangiomas are the most common benign liver tumor, found in 5-7% of patients. While benign, they can cause discomfort, hemorrhage, and consumptive coagulopathy (Kasabach-Merritt syndrome). Complication risk increases with size, and those>4 cm are considered ‘giant’ hemangiomas. Treatments include observation alone, surgical resection, transarterial embolization (TAE), radiation, RF, and medical therapy. While treatment is generally offered for symptomatic giant hemangiomas, the exact role for TAE remains unclear.
