Neonatal heart regeneration: Moving from phenomenology to regenerative medicine

Feature Editor's Note —The recent decade has witnessed amazing discoveries in molecular and cell biology, with potentially exciting translational applications. Many dogmas have been shattered and many molecular therapies that once seemed impossible have now became achievable and, in fact, are within our reach. One such dogma was the inability of the human heart to regenerate. Since the very early days of heart surgery, this concept remained unchallenged and was accepted by all of us. Yet, the human heart can regenerate, albeit early in life.
