Lymphaticovenular anastomosis in elderly patients

At our hospital, we consider multiple factors in determining the indication for surgical treatment for lymphedema, including age, the underlying causes of lymphedema, stage of edema, general health status, frequency of cellulitis, and the patient's treatment choices. While lymphedema in young individuals is generally treated using surgical lymphaticovenular anastomosis, conservative treatment is usually recommended for older individuals due to the overall poor health status. However, there is no evidence that treatment outcomes of lymphaticovenular anastomosis would be poorer in older than in younger individuals.
