Complications of measles can include hepatitis, appendicitis, and viral meningitis, doctors warn

(BMJ) The complications of measles can be many and varied, and more serious than people might realise, doctors have warned in the journal BMJ Case Reports after treating a series of adults with the infection.

We take steps toward causally interpretable meta-analysis by describing methods for transporting causal inferences from a collection of randomized trials to a new target population, one trial at a time and pooling all trials. We discuss identifiability conditions for average treatment effects in the target population and provide identification results. We show that the assumptions that allow inferences to be transported from all trials in the collection to the same target population have implications for the law underlying the observed data. We propose average treatment effect estimators that rely on different working mode...

ConclusionsBuilding upon the information gained, an optimum inactivation can be reached via raising of power density up to 1200  W and simultaneous lowering of frequency down to 27 kHz. In addition, the combination of the two physical methods UV treatment and ultrasound may yield optimum results without the need of substance removal after the procedure.

We report a case of a 76-year-old male who presented with recurrent ileal conduit site peristomal hemorrhage without known chronic liver disease. His liver function tests were normal, but computed tomography of the abdomen and pelvis showed liver nodularity and peristomal varices. He was diagnosed to have cirrhosis with portal hypertension and further tested positive for active hepatitis C infection. The patient's extrahepatic portosystemic ileal conduit site shunt was successfully treated with transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt and endovascular variceal coiling. This case identifies a situation where it is ...

te;dérick Arnaud Alain Kohl Toscana virus (TOSV) is a Phlebovirus in the Phenuiviridae family, order Bunyavirales, found in the countries surrounding the Mediterranean. TOSV is an important cause of seasonal acute meningitis and encephalitis within its range. Here, we determined the full sequence of the TOSV strain 1500590, a lineage A virus obtained from an infected patient (Marseille, 2007) and used this in combination with other sequence information to construct functional cDNA plasmids encoding the viral L, M, and S antigenomic sequences under the control of the T7 RNA promoter to recover recombinant virus...

The aim of this study was to investigate the regulatory function of the non-coding microRNA-155 (miR-155) and suppressor of cytokine signaling 1 (SOCS1) in alcoholic hepatitis (AH) and its potential mechanism associated with the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway. Levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), albumin (ALB), total bilirubin (TBIL), malondialdehyde (MDA), and superoxide dismutase (SOD) were measured in a rat model of AH. The biological prediction website microRNA.org and dual-luciferase reporter gene assay were used to identify whether SOCS1 was a direct t...

AbstractPediatric robot-assisted surgery is technically challenging, but it is becoming the most desirable approach for most of the pediatric urological abdominal surgical procedures. Distance between ports has been adopted based on adult surgery experience. Currently, there is scarce information and literature about effective trocar position and distance between ports for highly complex pediatric multiquadrant surgery. The aim of this study is to evaluate the most effective way of port placement for pediatric multiquadrant robot-assisted surgery using an inanimate model. Two inanimate models simulating the abdominal area ...
