In this study, we examined the effect of laparoscopic-guided transversus abdominis plane block (LG TAP) for further optimizing multimodal pain control.MethodsThis is a retrospective analysis of a prospectively collected database of 140 consecutive patients undergoing LSG without TAP block (pre-TAP group) compared to 131 patients undergoing LSG with LGTAP (TAP group). All operations were performed laparoscopically utilizing uniform clinical pathways. Baseline characteristics for both groups were comparable. Both groups received standardized anesthesia. Outcomes included time to postoperative ambulation, pain scores, PCA vol...

Authors: Tsujimura T, Inoue M Abstract Swallowing has a vital function in airway protection and is the next step after mastication. Swallowing impairment, which is known as dysphagia, is frequently accompanied by pain. Previous clinical studies have shown that orofacial pain affects swallowing function. Thus, it was hypothesized that orofacial noxious inputs may modulate swallowing function. Previous studies using anesthetized animals has proposed that the facial skin-nucleus tractus solitarii (NTS), masseter muscle-NTS, lingual muscle-NTS, and lingual muscle-paratrigeminal nucleus-NTS pathways may be involved in t...

Conclusions: The intimate relationship between epithelium and sensory nerves of the cornea has been well documented; however, changes in the corneal epithelial stem cell niche in conjunction with development of innervation have not previously been reported. Considering the architecture of the corneal nerves in conjunction with the architecture of the POV may assist in developing treatments that can support the regeneration and maintenance of epithelium during nerve regeneration.

Authors: Chuh A, Zawar V, Fölster-Holst R, Sciallis G, Rosemann T Abstract Dermoscopy in primary care enhances clinical diagnoses and allows for risk stratifications. We have compiled 25 recommendations from our experience of dermoscopy in a wide range of clinical settings. The aim of this study is to enhance the application of dermoscopy by primary care clinicians. For primary care physicians commencing dermoscopy, we recommend understanding the aims of dermoscopy, having adequate training, purchasing dermoscopes with polarised and unpolarised views, performing regular maintenance on the equipment, seeking co...
