Abstract
OBJECTIVES: To aid primary care physicians, emergency medicine physicians, and gynaecologists in the initial investigation of adnexal masses, defined as lumps that appear near the uterus or in or around ovaries, fallopian tubes, or surrounding connective tissue, and to outline recommendations for identifying women who would benefit from a referral to a gynaecologic oncologist for further management.
INTENDED USERS: Gynaecologists, obstetricians, family physicians, general surgeons, emergency medicine specialists, radio...

ConclusionAppendiceal mucocele is a disease which generally causes similar clinical findings of acute appendicitis. Ultrasound and CT may be useful in preoperative diagnosis. Surgical treatment options of mucocele are open or laparoscopic appendectomy, cecum resection, and right hemicolectomy. Although its incidence is low, due to pseudomyxoma peritonei, it is a pathology that requires careful surgery.

Discussion
Peritoneal fluid is normal. It decreases the friction of the peritoneum covering abdominal and pelvic organs and helps to protect them and allow their movement. A normal amount of peritoneal fluid is expected on radiological evaluation. Increased peritoneal fluid is a continuum and is concerning as a wide variety of pathological causes are associated with it such as abdominal trauma and appendicitis. At the far end of the scale is ascites that is the accumulation of free fluid more than 25 ml. It is usually associated with abdominal distension but fluid must accumulate before distension can occur and therefore i...

Medical imaging saves millions of lives each year, helping doctors detect and diagnose a wide range of diseases, from cancer and appendicitis to stroke and heart disease. Because non-invasive early disease detection saves so many lives, scientific investment continues to increase. Artifical intelligence (AI) has the potential to revolutionize the medical imaging industry by sifting through mountains of scans quickly and offering providers and patients with life-changing insights into a variety of diseases, injuries, and conditions that may be hard to detect without the supplemental technology.
Images are the largest source...

Before you break out the bottles for a paracentesis, you may want to consider doing a test for ascites. Many procedures require executing an old-school test before even looking at a result or grabbing an ultrasound machine. Knowing what to look for on a physical exam may guide your practice and intervention dramatically. Using noninvasive tools first could help your patient avoid other tedious or unnecessary testing, which may also result in lost time. Incorporating ultrasound into your practice may also help you nail a diagnosis or allow you to perform a procedure better than you expected.A markedly distended abdomen d...

Most lateral pelvic masses in women are ovarian in origin, and the distinction between ovarian and nonovarian mimics of ovarian cancer is critical for appropriate clinical and surgical management. Adnexal masses detected on ultrasound can be further characterized by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) when needed. Superior contrast resolution, multiplanar imaging, charact...
