Myocardial calcifications are often discovered incidentally and result from dystrophic or metastatic deposition of calcium1. Dystrophic calcification represents the sequalae of local tissue damage with necrosis, most commonly from myocardial ischemia. Unlike the prior, metastatic calcification is the result of abnormal calcium homeostasis; including renal failure, hyperparathyroidism, and vitamin D deficiency. Myocardial calcifications are not entirely a benign finding, since they can lead to heart failure, arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death2.
Authors: Zhao WB, Zhu L, Rahman T Abstract Objective: Few studies have investigated the association of apolipoprotein B (ApoB) with the progression of diabetic kidney disease (DKD) and the risk of renal replacement therapy (RRT).Method: In this retrospective cohort study, a group of 258 DKD patients with stage 3-5chronic kidney disease(CKD)were divided into low ApoB (
Junli Zheng, Xuezhong Gong, Zhaolong WuNigerian Journal of Clinical Practice 2020 23(4):437-449 IgA nephropathy (IgAN) is the most common form of glomerulonephritis in the world. Immunosuppressive therapy has been widely used in IgAN patients at home and abroad. The present meta-analysis aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of different immunosuppressive agents in patients with biopsy proven IgAN, in order to provide guidance for the clinical treatment of IgAN treatment options. We conducted a meta-analysis of the published randomized controlled trials (RCTs). PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Medline, ...
In conclusion, this mutant may be an effective vaccine candidate against scorpion envenomation by H. lepturus in future clinical studies.
AbstractInitial screening for proteinuria by urine dipstick test (UDT) may be useful for predicting clinical outcomes. The Shinken Database includes all the new patients visiting the Cardiovascular Institute Hospital in Tokyo, Japan. Patients for whom UDT was performed at their initial visit between 2004 and 2010 (n = 7131) were divided into three groups according to the test results: negative, trace, and positive (1+ to 4+) proteinuria. During the mean follow-up period of 3.4 years, 233 (3.1%) deaths, 255 (3.6%) heart failure (HF) events, and 106 (1.5%) ischemic stroke (IS) events occurred. Prevalence o...
Ignoring a problem won ’t make it go away. I say this all the time, with love and compassion, to my patients who are having trouble accepting a diagnosis. Ignoring your Type 2 Diabetes, for example, won’t make it any less real. It will only land you in renal failure and on dialysis, or with a […]Find jobs at Careers by KevinMD.com. Conclusion: Time-averaged low BP values were independently associated to a decreased risk of renal progression in IgAN with no evidence of a J-curve relationship even at SBP levels below 125 mmHg.
Authors: Wang S, Shang J, Xiao J, Zhao Z Abstract Aims: The aim was to determine whether anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-positive serology in patients with lupus nephritis (LN) is associated with different clinicopathologic features and outcomes. Methods: In our retrospective analysis, 283 patients were enrolled between 2013 and 2018. Thirty-six patients were ANCA-positive, and this group was compared with the remaining 247 patients who were confirmed as ANCA-negative at the time of biopsy. Results: ANCA-positive LN patients exhibited higher anti-dsDNA antibody titers and serum creatinine levels and lower...
