Rhabdoid cavitated adenocarcinoma in the jejunum, an exceptional case by enteroscopy.

We present a similar case in the jejunum diagnosed by double balloon enteroscopy (DBE). We present the case of a 64-year-old patient with multifactorial anemia and transfusional requirements and a flat lesion of 2 cm in the colon, which showed undifferentiated adenocarcinoma on histopathological analysis. CONCLUSION: Antibacterial exposure was associated with an increased risk of gemcitabine-associated, dose-limiting adverse events, including aggregate hematologic and gastrointestinal events, as well as four specific hematologic adverse events, suggesting that intratumor bacteria may be responsible for a clinically significant portion of gemcitabine metabolism. Alternative avenues of evidence will be necessary to confirm this preliminary finding and assess its generalizability. There is plentiful opportunity for similar analyses on other clinical trial data sets, where gemcitabine or other biomimetic small molecules were us...

Lung cancer remains one of the most frequent and most deadly tumor entities, with 1.6 million tumor-related deaths annually worldwide. Lung cancer in patients who have never smoked has attracted growing interest because of treatable oncogenic alterations and the opportunity for individualized treatment. The identification of activating mutations in EGFR, mostly seen in exon 19 (deletion) or in exon 21 (L858R point mutation), together with an increased sensitivity to EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors, has been the first and most important step toward molecular-guided precision therapy of lung cancer.

A 72-year old male with metastatic adenocarcinoma of the lung was referred for colonoscopy to evaluate rectal bleeding and anaemia. The patient was on rivaroxaban for treatment of a malignancy-associated pulmonary embolus. A colonoscopy was performed which revealed multiple ulcerated colonic polypoid lesions in the caecum and transverse colon (Fig. 1), as well as a large malignant-looking ulcer in the terminal ileum. Histology from the colonic lesions and terminal ileal ulcer demonstrated mucosal infiltration by moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma, with an immunohistochemistry profile supportive of metastatic adenocar...

This study is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT01243944.FindingsWe enrolled patients between Oct 27, 2010, and Feb 13, 2013, and the study concluded on Feb 9, 2018. Of 342 individuals screened for eligibility, 222 patients were randomly assigned to receive ruxolitinib (n=110, 50%) or best available therapy (n=112, 50%). The median time since polycythaemia vera diagnosis was 8·2 years (IQR 3·9–12·3) in the ruxolitinib group and 9·3 years (4·9–13·8) in the best available therapy group. 98 (88%) of 112 patients initially randomly assigned to best available therapy cr...

Conclusion: Although AIG is rare in children, pediatric gastroenterologists and pathologists should have a heightened suspicion for this entity in those patients with a history of autoimmune disorders and/or pernicious anemia.

Abstract FLOT-4 study recently reports that in patients with gastric cancer, perioperative chemotherapy with 5-fluorouracile, leucovorin, oxaliplatin and docetaxel (FLOT regimen) increases survival over standard ECF/ECX regimen (epirubicine, cisplatine and 5-fluorouracile [or capecitabine]). Does this study, make FLOT a new standard of perioperative chemotherapy for localized gastric cancer? Seven hundred and sixteen patients were included into that randomized study. Thirty seven per cent and 46% of the patients received the full planned treatment in the ECF/ECX group and in the FLOT group, respectively. The prima...

Conclusions: This study showed bevacizumab combined with chemotherapy could effectively control intracranial lesions, relieve symptoms, and improve the quality of life and survival of patients with brain metastases from lung adenocarcinoma. Serum baseline VEGF may be a predictor of efficacy of bevacizumab plus chemotherapy in the treatment of brain metastases from lung adenocarcinoma. PMID: 31903262 [PubMed]

ConclusionsFOLFIRI  + S has signs of clinical activity in patients with advanced gastric and GEJ adenocarcinoma, and the side-effect profile was similar to previously reported studies. Current treatment paradigms in gastric cancer probably negate further study of this regimen.ClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT00524186.
