CONCLUSIONS: In highly selected patients at very HBR, discontinuation of any antithrombotic therapy after LAAC appears safe and feasible. PMID: 32999093 [PubMed - in process]

We present a case of stroke in a 62-year-old COVID-19-positive patient, with multiple vascular risk factors. The patient arrived 1 h after onset of symptoms, was treated with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rtPA) with improvement of neurologic deficits, and later developed right foot arterial ischemia (recanalized by balloon catheter angioplasty) and left arm superficial venous thrombosis. A control computed tomography (CT) scan 7 days after onset showed hemorrhagic transformation of ischemic lesion without mass effect. However, respiratory and neurologic conditions improved so that the patient was discharged to ...

This study assesses the current practices of physicians in Lebanon routinely involved in ischemic stroke (IS) management. We conducted a prospective observational study of patients hospitalized at 8 different Lebanese hospitals in the period August 1, 2015 to July 31, 2016, with a diagnosis of acute stroke. Baseline characteristics and data on diagnostic studies, as well as treatments received during hospitalization and at discharge, were collected and analyzed. Two hundred and three strokes/transient ischemic attacks (TIAs) were recorded but only 173 patients (85%) with ischemic events were included in the study. The pati...

ConclusionsThis retrospective study suggests that SHPD may play a protective role in HT appearance and evolution, which requires verification by a randomized clinical trial.

ConclusionsThe most frequent causes of cSAH in our series were cerebral amyloid angiopathy, ischaemic stroke, and vasculitis. This type of haemorrhage has a worse prognosis than other non-aneurysmal cSAH. There are numerous possible causes, and prognosis depends on the aetiology. In elderly patients, intracranial haemorrhage is frequently associated with cognitive impairment.ResumenIntroducciónLas hemorragias subaracnoideas corticales (HSAc) tienen numerosas etiologías. No hay estudios prospectivos que indiquen su evolución a largo plazo. El objetivo de este trabajo es describir las característi...

A nationally recommended practice to accelerate thrombolytic therapy for acute ischemic stroke is to route emergency medical services (EMS)-transported stroke patients directly to the computed tomography (CT) scanner on arrival. We evaluated door-to-needle time with direct-to-CT routing versus emergency department (ED)-bed first routing.

Authors: Inoue T, Suematsu Y Abstract Background: In atrial fibrillation (AF) patients, the left atrial appendage (LAA) is the major source of thrombi. We assessed the hypothesis that poor contrast enhancement in the LAA during the early phase of cardiac computed tomography (CT) predicts a high risk of thrombus formation, leading to cardiogenic stroke. Methods: We studied 147 consecutive patients with chronic AF who underwent cardiac CT. Three different patterns of medium contrast enhancement in the LAA were used to categorize the stroke risk: poor, intermediate, and good enhancement pattern. Results: The C...
