The identification of the acromial morphology may be helpful for acromioplasty planning with regarding the acromial types.MethodsDescriptive Laboratory Study. Three-dimensional computed tomography scans models of 108 shoulders in 91 patients with; (1) Normal shoulders, (2) Shoulders with osteoarthritis, and (3) Irreparable rotator cuff tears; were created and adjusted manually to provide the proper supraspinatus outlet and Rockwood views. The acromial morphology/spurs were analyzed, classified and tested for reliability.ResultsThe intra-observer reliability of supraspinatus outlet view had a weak-to-strong agreement [0.828 (95%CI: 0.716–0.945, p-value

Authors: Li F, Wu C, Sun H, Zhou Q Abstract AIMS: To study the effect of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections on pain reduction in patients with temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis (TMJ OA). METHODS: The authors performed a comprehensive search of the MEDLINE, PubMed, and Web of Science databases to retrieve RCTs published up to July 2018. Pain outcomes (visual analog scale scores) were extracted to assess the effect of PRP injections on TMJ OA. All data analyses were conducted using RevMan 5.3. RESULTS: Six studies were included. According to the results of these trials, intra-articular injections of P...

Congenital, developmental, and acquired conditions of the pediatric hip frequently present with sequelae in the adult. There is substantial overlap in the end-stage results of these pathologic conditions, including osseous changes, chondral/labral injuries, and premature osteoarthritis. This review discusses the top 10 etiopathogeneses of pediatric hip conditions and presents associated dysmorphisms in the adult on an illustrative, multimodality, case-based template. Quantitative imaging metrics and the role of advanced imaging techniques are reviewed. The ultimate goal is enhanced understanding of the expected evolution o...

CONCLUSIONS Thus, verbascoside inhibited inflammatory cytokine secretion in the OA rats by targeting P2X7R expression, production of matrix metalloproteinase, PGE2 and downregulation of NF-kappaB signaling pathway. Therefore, verbascoside may be used as potent agent for osteoarthritis treatment. PMID: 32249762 [PubMed - in process]

This study examines the relationship between quantitative sensory testing (QST) and clinical measures of pain sensitization in people with knee OA. Methods: A secondary analysis of data from 134 participants with knee OA was performed. Clinical measures included: manual tender point count (MTPC), the Central Sensitization Inventory (CSI) to capture centrally mediated comorbidities, number of painful sites on a body chart, and neuropathic pain-like symptoms assessed using the modified PainDetect Questionnaire. Relationships between clinical measures and QST measures of pressure pain thresholds (PPTs), temporal summation,...

(Harvard University) Scientists have identified the genetic switches regulating knee development in mouse and human, explored their evolution, probed their links to bipedalism and osteoarthritis, and confirmed that a mutation in one switch gives rise to the disease. The findings could lead to screening for subtle shape alterations and genetic variations earlier in life that might predispose a person to risk. The methods could be used to explore genetic links between any advantageous trait and potential pathology.
