The Association between Dialysis Dose and Risk of Cancer Death in Patients Undergoing Hemodialysis: The Q-Cohort Study.
Conclusion A lower dialysis dose might be associated with a higher risk of cancer death in patients undergoing HD. Kt/V is a simple indicator of dialysis dose used in clinical practice and might be a useful modifiable factor for predicting the risk of cancer death. Further basic and interventional studies are needed to confirm the apparent reduction in cancer death associated with increasing the dialysis dose. PMID: 32051383 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
AbstractA 70-year-old man diagnosed with lung adenocarcinoma was referred to our department for an evaluation of acute onset of nephrotic syndrome with acute kidney injury (AKI) after the 7th course of pembrolizumab treatment. Renal biopsy could not be performed, because he needed anticoagulation therapy for venous thrombosis. Pembrolizumab was discontinued, and prednisolone was started. Hemodialysis was also started, because oliguria was not resolved, and dyspnea due to pulmonary congestion appeared even with the high dose of diuretics. Hemodialysis was successfully withdrawn within 5-week duration because of renal functi...

Abstract Herein, we investigated the pharmacokinetic (PK) profile of nedaplatin (cis-diamine-glycolateplatinum; CDGP) in a hemodialysis (HD) patient with advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) by administering the CDGP immediately prior to HD. Our patient was treated with CDGP (45 mg/m2 for a total dose of 60.2 mg) and 5-fluorouracil (560 mg/m2 for a total dose of 750 mg) before initiating HD. The total platinum (Pt) concentration (Pt_total) and free Pt concentration (Pt_free) 2 h after completion of HD were 0.4 μg/mL and 0.3 μg/mL, respectively. The removal rates of Pt_total and Pt_free by the d...
ConclusionFast induction of eWBH with homogenous thermal distribution is feasible in pigs using the Vith èr WBH device. Severe hemodynamic disturbances, rhabdomyolysis, and hyperkalemia were observed.
Authors: Maruta M, Miyoshi T, Matsuo N, Yamashina T, Irie K, Tsuruta M, Tsukada H, Tsuruyama M, Nagano M, Hiraki Y Abstract We administered FOLFOX (oxaliplatin (L-OHP) plus infusional 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) and leucovorin) to an hemodialysis (HD) patient with advanced gastric cancer (AGC), and investigated pharmacokinetics (PKs) and dialyzability of L-OHP. The patient was a 54-year-old Japanese man with a diagnosis of inoperable AGC. FOLFOX was instituted 3 h prior to the start of a 4 h HD period with the L-OHP and 5-FU doses reduced by 50% for the first cycle, and 30% reduced dose was administered for...
Conclusions: The cancer incidence of chronic hemodialysis patients was relatively high. Thus, careful monitoring and a specific cancer screening program are needed for chronic hemodialysis patients. PMID: 32066223 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
We describe the successful use of EUS-FNA in a peritoneal dialysis (PD) patient to evaluate a pancreatic cyst. The patient continued on PD immediately after the procedure without using hemodialysis. The patient did not experience any complication such as infection, bleeding, or peritoneal fluid leakage. PMID: 32063184 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
Conclusion CAS in maintenance hemodialysis patients may be feasible and effective for the prevention of stroke with proper case selection, appropriate technique and strict perioperative management. The most common causes of death during the follow-up of maintenance hemodialysis patients were diseases other than stroke. PMID: 32062623 [PubMed - in process]
