A trial of conservative management is reasonable for select patients; potential surgical indications include refractory pain, neurological deficit, fracture nonunion with anterolisthesis or kyphotic angulation, L5-S1 pseudarthrosis, and spinopelvic malalignment. Conclusions: Low bone mass and deteriorated TBS were noted in approximately two-thirds of T2DM women and was also associated with vertebral fracture. In addition to aging, poor glycemic control may play an important role in bone remodeling, which may be associated with changes in bone strength in T2DM women. Bone strength together with clinical risk factors has the strongest association with fracture, and may potentially be useful to identify women with T2DM at risk.

ConclusionsThe trabecular parts of the alveolar and basal bones and the MCW were not significantly altered by BP treatment in patients with osteoporosis over 4.3 –5 years, as detected by digital periapical and panoramic radiography. The low dosages of bisphosphonates used in the treatment of osteoporosis may explain this lack of change in MCW. Dental radiographs should not be considered as a method to monitor BP-induced jaw bone alterations among osteopor otic patients.
