Prevalence of Pulmonary Hypertension in Dialysis Patients with End-stage Renal Disease.

DISCUSSION:  In patients with ESRD, PH is frequently associated with fluid retention as shown by bioimpedance spectroscopy. After adjustment of fluid to normal levels, PH was confirmed by invasive test in nearly 4 % of cases. PMID: 32053839 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

RARITAN, NJ, March 28, 2020 – The Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson &Johnson today announced the VOYAGER PAD study met its primary efficacy and principal safety endpoints, demonstrating the XARELTO® (rivaroxaban) vascular dose (2.5 mg twice daily) plus aspirin (100 mg once daily) was superior to aspirin alone in reducing the risk of major adverse limb and cardiovascular (CV) events by 15 percent in patients with symptomatic peripheral artery disease (PAD) after lower-extremity revascularization, with similar rates of TIMI[1] major bleeding. VOYAGER PAD is the only study to show a significant benefit...

Conclusions: Inhaled prostacyclin (or analogues)was comparable to inhaled NO in treating PH after cardiac or pulmonary surgery. Key Messages:This study compared the efficacy of inhaled prostacyclin or its analogues versus inhaledNO to treat PH after surgery. The two types of agent exhibited similar efficacy in managingMPAP, PVR, heart rate, and cardiac output was observed.Inhaled prostacyclin may serve as an alternative treatment option for PH after cardiac or pulmonary surgery. Resistance toward current and new classes of anti-tuberculosis (anti-TB) antibiotics are rapidly emerging; thus, innovative therapies focused on host processes, termed host-directed therapies (HDTs), are promising novel approaches for shortening therapy regimens without inducing drug resistance. Development of new TB drugs is lengthy and expensive, and success is not guaranteed; thus, alternatives are needed. Repurposed drugs have already passed Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as well as European Medicines Agency (EMA) safety requirements and may only need to prove efficacy against Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M.tb). Pho...

DISCUSSION: Our study did not show any significant difference in terms of haemodynamic changes during exercise between a group of patients under specific PH treatment exposed to cigarette smoke and a group unexposed. Endothelial dysfunction induced by smoke exposure does not appear to have a major impact on the response to the specific PH treatment. PMID: 32199735 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
