Publication Challenges, Past, Present, and Future

In this edition of the Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia, Dr. Pagel et al. examined the rate of positive versus negative studies published in the journal over the last 15 years.1 Their objective was to examine the role publication bias may play in interpretation of trial results, and the potential impact this may have on interpretation of clinical care, either through direct interpretation of the trial itself, or from the subsequent incorporation of the trial results into meta-analyses or practice guidelines.
