AbstractEmerging evidence showed that long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) plays crucial roles in regulating various cancer biological behaviors. Titin ‐antisense RNA1 (TTN‐AS1) has been reported to have crucial roles in cancers but its role in ovarian cancer remains unknown. The levels of TTN‐AS1, microNRA‐15b‐5p (miR‐15b‐5p), and F‐box and WD repeat domain containing 7 (FBXW7) in ovarian cancer cells were measured by quantitative reverse‐transcription PCR. Targets for TTN‐AS1 and miR‐15b‐5p were predicted by bioinformatic tools, and validated by luciferase activity reporter assay. Cell proliferation, colon...

AbstractLiver cancer is a malignant tumor that occurs in the liver and has a high mortality rate. We strived to detect the role and mechanism of circRNA ‐0072309 in liver cancer. Hep3B cell line was transfected with pc‐circ and si‐circ for viability, colony formation, apoptosis, migration, and invasion tests, which were individually performed by CCK‐8, colony formation detection, flow cytometry assay, migration and invasion assays. What is m ore, the luciferase reporter assay was conducted to determine the target relationship between the circRNA‐0072309 and microRNA (miR)‐665. The expression of circRNA‐007230...

Xerostomia: prevention with Pycnogenol® supplementation: a pilot study. Minerva Stomatol. 2019 Dec;68(6):303-307 Authors: Belcaro G, Cesarone MR, Cornelli U, Scipione C, Scipione V, Dugall M, Hu S, Feragalli B, Hosoi M, Maione C, Cotellese R, Cesinaro Di Rocco P Abstract BACKGROUND: The aim of this pilot study was the evaluation of primary, idiopathic mucosal dryness (xerostomia or dry mouth) in subjects without cancer. METHODS: A group of non-diabetic subjects and a group of diabetics were managed with standard management (SM) or with SM+Pycnogenol® (150 mg/day) for 2 weeks. RESULTS: I...

Authors: Garufi G, Palazzo A, Paris I, Orlandi A, Cassano A, Tortora G, Scambia G, Bria E, Carbognin L Abstract Introduction: Despite recent advances in the molecular characterization of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), the standard treatment for early-stage TNBC is represented by the historically used anthracycline and taxane-based chemotherapy. In this modern era of precision medicine, several new therapeutic strategies and novel agents have been investigated in the neoadjuvant setting of TNBC, in order to individualize treatment.Areas covered: This review provides a comprehensive overview of the currently a...

We examined lncRNA profiles from three glioma specimens using lncRNA expression profiling microarrays. Quantitative real-time RT-PCR was used to analyze the differential expression of raw intensities of lncRNA expression in glioma and peritumoral tissues. Results: We found 4858 lncRNAs to be differentially expressed between tumor tissue and peritumoral tissue. Of these, 2845 lncRNAs were up-regulated (fold change> 3.0) and 2013 were down-regulated (fold change 3.0) and 1804 that were down-regulated (fold change

Conclusions: The inhibitory effects of ectopic KLF4 could be attenuated by co-transfection of miR-135b-5p. Collective data suggested that miR-135b-5p has a tumor-promoting role in GC cells via downregulating KLF4. Hence, inhibition of miR-135b-5p could be valuable for treatment of gastric cancer. Conclusions: Due to the availability of better treatment options, as well as presence of effective tools for detecting BC at the early stages of progression, BC mortality is falling in most analyzed European countries. To maintain this situation and to stop BC mortality increase in the analyzed age group in Bulgaria, Croatia, Poland, Romania and Slovakia, immediate actions for improvement of BC management in the European health care systems should be considered. Conclusions: The MDR1/ABCB1 gene polymorphism rs 1045642 may be involved in the pathogenesis of CRC and this relationship may be sex-specific for males. However, further population studies are necessary to assess this relationship. PMID: 32051713 [PubMed]

Conclusions: The long-term survival from CRC, colon cancer and rectum cancer remains promising, as 68.66%, 69.11% and 67.90% of patients are alive 5 years after being diagnosed, respectively. Perineural invasion was found to be an important factor related to the survival of patients who have CRC. Thus, early detection of CRC may help improve survival. PMID: 32051712 [PubMed]
