IJERPH, Vol. 17, Pages 1133: Allograft and Collagen Membrane Augmentation Procedures Preserve the Bone Level around Implants after Immediate Placement and Restoration

Conclusions: The immediate replacement of a single maxillary tooth by implants combined with guided bone regeneration is a predictable treatment modality with favorable peri-implant bony response.

We report a case of generalized chronic periodontitis requiring periodontal treatment including regenerative therapy. The patient was a 57-year-old who man presented with the chief complaint of gingival swelling and mobile teeth in the right maxillary molar region. An initial examination revealed 55.3% of sites with a probing depth of ≥4 mm and 24.0% with bleeding on probing. Radiographic examination revealed vertical bone resorption in teeth #16, 17, 25, 26, 37, and 45; horizontal resorption was also noted in other areas. Based on a clinical diagnosis of severe chronic periodontitis, initial periodontal therapy consist...

Authors: Aggour RL, Abd El-Hady HMG Abstract OBJECTIVE: Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is a fibrin matrix in which platelet cytokines, growth factors and cells are embedded; therefore, it has the potential to be used as regenerative therapy. The aim of this randomized clinical study was to evaluate the regenerative capacity of PRF when compared to collagen membrane (CM) for the treatment of intrabony periodontal defects in patients with generalized aggressive periodontitis (GAgP). METHODS: Using a split-mouth design, sixteen GAgP patients with paired contralateral intrabony defects were randomly assigned to the tes...

Kerboull-type acetabular support rings (KT) and allogenic bone graft were used for severe periacetabular bone loss with primary and revision total hip arthroplasty (THA). The purpose of this case–control study is to evaluate the risk factors related to poor outcomes of surgery. Sixty patients underwent primary THA and revision THA using allogenic bone graft with KT for large acetabular deficiency. These patients were retrospectively evaluated postoperatively and followed-up by radiograph. The minimum follow-up period was 4 years and averaged 7 years. A radiological failure was defined by the following criteria: sub...

Conclusions: Within the limitations of the present study, PRF seems to favor soft-tissue healing but has no additional benefit in bone regeneration when used in combination with DFDBA.

Shikha Sharma, Ashita Uppoor, Dilip Gopinath Naik, Sayantan KarmakarJournal of Indian Society of Periodontology 2019 23(1):73-76 In the treatment of Class II furcation defects, guided tissue regeneration (GTR) in combination with bone grafts has provided better treatment outcomes in comparison to GTR alone. A 48-year-old male patient reported with a chief complaint of pain and bleeding in the right lower back teeth area from 3 months. On clinical and radiographic evaluation, a Class II buccal furcation defect was detected in tooth #46. A bidirectionally positioned flap (BPF) technique in combination with bone graft was do...

ConclusionsWithin the limits of the study, the application of VTA with a collagen membrane yielded positive outcomes in terms of radiographic bone fill, pocket depth reduction, and attachment gain after a 12-month period. Thus, VTA plus a collagen membrane seem to be suitable for the regenerative treatment of peri-implantitis.Clinical relevanceThe use of locally delivered antibiotic together with the bone graft may reduce the undesirable effects related to the systemic administration and the risk of resistances. In the light of the results obtained, these grafting materials might offer new treatment strategies in the surgi...

CONCLUSIONS: Within the limitations of this study, the present data seem to confirm the hypothesis that the clinical outcome of implants inserted in sinuses grafted with ABB vs implants inserted in sinuses grafted with mixed 50% ABB and 50% autologous bone are comparable. Conflict-of-interest statement: This study was not supported by any company. All the authors declare no conflict of interest. PMID: 29234749 [PubMed - in process]

Abstract: The study was to comprehensively compare the postoperative outcome and imaging parameter characters in a short/middle period between the percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy (PELD) and the internal fixation of bone graft fusion (the most common form is posterior lumbar interbody fusion [PLIF]) for the treatment of adjacent segment lumbar disc prolapse with stable retrolisthesis after a previous lumbar internal fixation surgery. In this retrospective case-control study, we collected the medical records from 11 patients who received PELD operation (defined as PELD group) for and from 13 patients who received ...

Abstract OBJECTIVE: PemberSal osteotomy to improve femoral head coverage by rotating the acetabular roof ventrally and laterally. INDICATIONS: Insufficient coverage of the femoral head, and can be combined with other surgical procedures such as femoral intertrochanteric varus-derotation osteotomy and open reduction for developmental dysplasia and dislocation of the hip or to improve sphericity and containment in Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease. This specific acetabuloplasty can only be performed in patients with an open epiphyseal growth-plate. CONTRAINDICATIONS: Increased bleeding tendency (e.g., inhe...

CONCLUSION: The use of a porcine collagen-coated bovine bone graft to treat peri-implantitis represents a potentially predictable therapeutic modality. Randomized controlled trials are necessary to substantiate the treatment outcomes. PMID: 27183078 [PubMed - in process]
