Single-Ventricle Physiology

As we approach 50 years since the original publication describing the Fontan procedure for palliation of single-ventricle congenital heart disease, we review the basics of Fontan circulation, and the current literature concerning long-term complications. Surgical interventions have allowed children with former lethal defects to survive into adulthood and we recognize that this has led to a new cohort.
