Conclusions: Cytoreductive nephrectomy should no longer be considered the standard of care in patients with T3b or T4, or node-positive, and metastatic rcc. Eligible patients should be treated with systemic therapy and have their primary tumour removed only after review at a multidisciplinary case conference (mcc). Adjuvant sunitinib after surgery is not recommended. Patients with venous tumour thrombus should be considered for surgical intervention. Patients with T3, T4, or node-positive utuc should have their tumour removed without delay. Decisions concerning lymph node dissection should be done at a mcc and be based on ...

Authors: Bauzá Quetglas JL, Tienza Fernández A, Bertolo R, Sabaté Arroyo XA, Guimerà García J, Tubau Vidaña V, Frontera Juan G, Pieras Ayala E Abstract OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the potential prognostic value of the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in testicular cancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 80 patients with testicular cancer treated at our institution from 2005 to 2018 were retrospectively reviewed. Age, tumor markers, stage and histotype at final pathology, eventual medical treatment, tumor recurrence and follow-up data were extracted. The NLR was retrospectively c...

H. J. Looijenga miR-371a-3p is currently the most informative reported biomarker for germ cell tumors (GCTs). Another developmental-related biomarker, CRIPTO, is involved in the regulation of pluripotency and germ cell fate commitment. We aimed to assess the value of CRIPTO as a diagnostic and prognostic biomarker of testicular GCTs (TGCTs) and also to assess its presence in seminal plasma samples, compared with miR-371a-3p. In total, 217 and 94 serum/seminal plasma samples were analyzed. CRIPTO was quantified using ELISA and miR-371a-3p using bead-based isolation followed by RT-qPCR. Methylation profiling (EPIC array...

CONCLUSIONS: These results show that authorship and currency are lacking in many online testicular resources, making it difficult for patients to validate the reliability of information. The high average readability of testicular cancer websites can affect comprehension. Topics such as prognosis were incompletely covered although represent an area for which patients often seek more information. These results can be used to counsel patients on the strength and weaknesses of online testicular cancer resources. PMID: 32209216 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

n Pichler Testicular cancer is an important disease with increasing incidence and a high burden of morbidity and mortality in young men worldwide. Histological examination of the testicular tissue after orchiectomy plays an important role alongside patient history, imaging, clinical presentation and laboratory parameters. Surgical procedures and chemotherapeutic treatment provide a high chance of cure in early stages, though some patients in advanced stages belonging to a poor risk group experience cancer-related death. Though conventional serum-based tumor markers, including α-fetoprotein (AFP), the &bet...

Authors: Agbo CA, Lawal M, Jibrin D, Enjugu JE Abstract Testicular tuberculosis (TB) is a rare presentation of extrapulmonary TB. A 46-year-old man presented to our Urology clinic with a painless swelling of the right testis. Examination revealed a hard, non-tender swelling on the inferior pole of the testis that measured 3 x 2 cm. Scrotal ultrasound scan showed a complex mass with multiple hypoechoic lesions at the inferior pole of the right testis with dimension 2.4 x 1.7cm. Laboratory data showed elevated alpha fetoprotein and beta hcG and lymphocytosis. A diagnosis of right testicular cancer was made and the pa...

ConclusionsWhile CVID patients are at increased risk for lymphoma, lymphoproliferation may be observed in the absence of a concurrent hematologic or solid tumor malignancy.

Abstract OBJECTIVE:  We aimed to investigate the possible association between testicular cancer prognosis and De Ritis ratio (AST/ALT). METHODS:  The medical records of all patients who underwent radical inguinal orchiectomy at a single tertiary in Istanbul, Turkey between 2006 and 2017 were retrospectively analyzed. Investigated parameters included patients' demographics, complete blood count and blood biochemistry results, pathology results, treatment schemes, imaging results, and survival. De Ritis ratio was calculated as follows: AST/ALT. RESULTS:  A total of 171 patients with a mean a...

Abstract Aberrant content of sialic acids (Sias) has been observed in various human cancer types in different organs. Sias have been implicated in cancerous transformation, invasiveness and metastasis, and in the escaping of cancer cells from immune surveillance. Indeed, Sias are commonly regarded as important biomarkers to distinguish cancer cells from their healthy counterparts. However, scarce and not exhaustive investigations have been performed on Sia content in testicular cancers and, in particular, in seminoma, one of the most common malignant testicular tumors. Hence, the aim of this study was to investiga...
