Intraoperative radiotherapy for breast cancer treatment efficiently targets the tumor bed preventing breast adipose stromal cell outgrowth

ConclusionsAfter breast-conserving surgery, approximately 90% of local recurrences emerge in close proximity to the initial tumor bed, potentially reflecting a  significant contribution of the tumor bed to relapse. Our data show that IORT, besides the proven effect on breast cancer cells, efficiently modifies the tumor environment by having an impact on tumor bed bASC. This effect on tumor bed stromal cells might contribute to reduce the risk of tumor rel apse and metastases.

BOSTON (CBS) — Julie Tolek remembers the exact minute her life changed forever: June 26, 2019. It was eight in the morning when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. “I thought I was in a dream. Nightmare, I guess, is a better description,” Tolek recalled. “I couldn’t say the word. It couldn’t be my life.” The diagnosis: stage two grade two invasive ductal carcinoma — an aggressively growing cancer. “I chose to have a double mastectomy even though my cancer was only in one breast. I decided I wanted to do everything in my power to not have to go through this again,&rdqu...

Authors: Güven DC, Orhan C, Şahin K, Uçkun FM Abstract Preclinical animal models of breast cancer provide the opportunity to identify chemopreventive drugs with single-agent activity as well as effective multi-modality regimens for primary as well as secondary prevention in high-risk persons. Our group has used the 7,12-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene (DMBA) mouse model of carcinogen-induced breast cancer to explore the clinical potential of two tyrosine kinase inhibitors and a nucleoside analog as chemopreventive agents. All three agents exhibited promising preclinical activity both as monotherapy and as co...

Authors: Takemoto R, Kamiya T, Hara H, Adachi T Abstract Copper is one of the essential micronutrients, and copper-containing enzymes contribute to crucial functions in the body. Lysyl oxidase is a copper-containing enzyme that remodels the extracellular matrix by cross-linking collagen and elastin. The overexpression of lysyl oxidase was recently shown to promote tumor metastasis. M2-like macrophages were also found to significantly accumulate in the tumor microenvironment, and correlated with a poor patient's outcome. We speculate that M2-like macrophages promote tumor progression via lysyl oxidase expression. Ep...

AbstractObjectivesTo evaluate the usefulness of bilateral mammography in male patients with unilateral breast symptoms, including investigation of the diagnostic performance of unilateral and bilateral reviews and the average glandular dose (AGD) per exposure.MethodsTwo hundred seventy-one consecutive male patients (mean age, 57  years) with unilateral breast symptoms underwent bilateral mammography. Image interpretation was performed in two ways, first with a unilateral review of the symptomatic breast and then with a bilateral review. A modified BI-RADS scale (from 1 to 5) was used. The diagnostic performance of uni...
