Risk and population attributable fraction of metabolic syndrome and impaired fasting glucose for incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus among middle ‐aged Japanese: Aichi Worker’s Cohort Study

ConclusionIFG represented a higher risk and PAF than MetS for T2DM incidence in middle ‐aged Japanese. Coexistence of MetS and IFG indicated the highest risk and PAF for T2DM incidence. The current Japanese MetS screening program should be reconsidered to follow up non‐MetS individuals with IFG.

PREVALENCE OF VITAMIN D DEFICIENCY IN URBAN SOUTH INDIANS WITH DIFFERENT GRADES OF GLUCOSE TOLERANCE. Br J Nutr. 2020 Mar 26;:1-24 Authors: Jayashri R, Venkatesan U, Shanthi Rani CS, Deepa M, Anjana RM, Mohan V, Pradeepa R Abstract The present study assessed the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in an urban south Indian population in individuals with different grades of glucose tolerance.A total of 1,500 individuals [900 normal glucose tolerance(NGT), 300 prediabetes and 300 with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)] who were not on vitamin D supplementation were randomly selected from the Chennai Urban Ru...

Authors: Kitazawa T, Park CH, Hiratani K, Choi JS, Yokozawa T Abstract Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of risk factors for cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus. The risk factors include hypertension, dyslipidemia, hyperglycemia, and central obesity. Various diagnostic criteria have been proposed by different organizations over the past decade. The utilization of traditional Chinese medicine to treat metabolic syndrome has received increasing attention due to its wide availability. In this paper, we report the case of a 68-year-old patient with hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, borderline diabetes, ...

This study was designed to investigate the association of rs7903146 (C/T) polymorphism of TCF7L-2 gene with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in Asian Indians.MethodsIn this case-control study 162 non-diabetic subjects with NAFLD and 173 body mass index (BMI)-matched controls without NAFLD were recruited. Abdominal ultrasound, clinical and biochemical investigations, fasting insulin levels and value of homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) was measured. Single nucleotide polymorphism rs7903146 (C/T) was genotyped by polymerase chain reaction–restriction fragment length polymorphisms.Res...

AbstractObesity and insulin resistance are at the centre of most cases of metabolic syndrome (MetS), which may increase the risk of cardiovascular disease approximately 2 ‐fold and type 2 diabetes mellitus approximately 5‐fold. Aside from lifestyle intervention and drug therapy, bariatric surgery (BS) is considered a definitive treatment for this disease.

Authors: Grgurevic I, Podrug K, Mikolasevic I, Kukla M, Madir A, Tsochatzis EA Abstract Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is becoming the most prevalent liver disease worldwide, associated with epidemics of overweight and resulting metabolic syndrome (MetS). Around 20-30% of patients with NAFLD develop progressive liver fibrosis, which is the most important predictor of liver-related and overall morbidity and mortality. In contrast to classical understanding, no significant association has been demonstrated between the inflammatory component of NAFLD, i.e., nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), and the advers...
