Soluble ST2 (sST2) as potential marker for hepatic cystic echinococcosis activity
Cystic echinococcosis (CE) is a severe zoonotic disease distributed worldwide [1]. It has been shown that, the average prevalence of echinococcosis in western China is 1.08%, threatening about 66 million people, and the direct economic loss caused each year is as high as 3 billion Yuan (RMB) [2]. CE is a chronic, complex, and easily neglected parasitic infectious disease in humans caused by the larvae of Echinococcus granulosus (E. granulosus). Adult worms of E. granulosus are parasitic in definitive hosts such as carnivores and metacestodes are parasitic in intermediate hosts such as herbivores.
