Limited joint mobility of the hand correlates incident hospitalisation with infection in patients with type 2 diabetes
Death of infection is the second most common cause in patients with diabetes in Japan [1], and diabetes is reported to be a risk factor for hospitalisation with infection [2-4]. The risk of hospitalisation with pneumonia of patients with type 2 diabetes is increased with a 1.2-fold [2] and the risk of hospitalisation with urinary tract infections of patients with type 2 diabetes is increased with a 2-fold [5]. Furthermore, sepsis occurs more frequently in patients with diabetes, in whom it has a higher mortality rate than it does in non-diabetic patients [6].
